Film Review: Shrek Forever After

Putting Shrek and Jesus in the same article gets some people nervous. After all, Jesus' story is hardly fairy tale and he certainly wasn't an ogre. But there are one or two moments in this latest instalment of the Shrek series that reminded me of the life of Jesus. The latest film actually starts somewhere in the middle of the original film and in many ways Shrek Forever After is an attempt to put aside two forgettable sequels and get back to the heart of what made the first film work so well.

Jesus – the Taurus personality

Traditionally the symbol of St Luke’s Gospel is a bull or ox, and here very much not the ‘bull in a china shop’ but the strong dependable but sometimes immovable creature that is the mainstay of agricultural work in many parts of the world. Those we might call the strong and silent type are in mind here, but how might they reflect Jesus character and what lessons might Jesus have for such people?

Jesus – the Pisces personality

This personality type is based in the water/spirit area. The Pisces personality is centred around spirituality and intuition often coupled with compassion for others and a willingness to sacrifice themselves for others. Interestingly Pisces has been strongly linked to Jesus by some traditions because of the movement of the earth in relation to the stars that means roughly every two thousand years we move from what could be said to be the age of one star sign to the next.
