Since the relaunch of the rejesus blog at the start of the year I've been reviewing new movies that relate to Jesus in some way. Whilst it's not always easy to find films that fit into that category, Harry Potter should have been straight forward. After all it's humble hero is an exceptional miracle worker, who is born to be the chosen one. The problem... was me.
In his own time, Jesus was famous as a miracle worker. The miracles shocked those who saw them – not because of the spactacle, but because of the dangerous message they carried about Jesus. In these pages we follow the BBC series from 2003, The Miracles of Jesus, and try to decode three miracles to find out what they were all about.
Jesus lived and walked on earth for about 33 years in the early years of the 1st century AD. For most of his life he worked, probably as a carpenter, in the obscurity of Nazareth, a busy town in northern Israel. It was only in the final three years of his life that he took to the road as a prophet, teacher and healer, attracting both followers and enemies, and also the ordinary people, who gathered in large numbers to hear his words and seek his healing powers.
