It's nearly two o'clock in the morning, and I'm struggling to keep my eyelids open. I'm awake for a reason. On this night Christians remember something that happened in the small hours just before Jesus' arrest. Before the soldiers came to get him, Jesus went out to an olive garden on the edge of the city, a garden known as Gethsemane. Knowing what was about to happen, and getting very agitated, he said to his friends, "I'm hurting to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
Jesus lived and walked on earth for about 33 years in the early years of the 1st century AD. For most of his life he worked, probably as a carpenter, in the obscurity of Nazareth, a busy town in northern Israel. It was only in the final three years of his life that he took to the road as a prophet, teacher and healer, attracting both followers and enemies, and also the ordinary people, who gathered in large numbers to hear his words and seek his healing powers.
Jesus hung on the cross for six hours before he died. In that time, he spoke to his friends, to the criminal crucified next to him, and to God. They are the last words he spoke before he died. These pages present Jesus' seven last sayings in seven short movies. Links to the animations are found below, links to the text are found to the right.

Artistic images of Jesus are often controversial and Cosimo Cavallaro's latest installation "My Sweet Lord" is proving to be no exception. Having gained notoriety back in 1999 for covering a hotel room in cheese his latest piece is a sculpture of Jesus fashioned in chocolate. The exhibition, in New York's Lab Gallery opens this Sunday, just a week before Easter.
