Have you ever been told that you never get a second chance to make a first impression or perhaps that you should "Dress for Success"? Like it or not, we live in a world where we are judged by our appearance.
In the last month, the Church of England's two most senior bishops have both spoken out on the issue of poverty in the UK. Rowan Williams' piece in the New Statesman grabbed all the headlines a few weeks ago, but last week also saw the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, tackling the issue in Friday's Guardian. In it he argued the need for us to stand together and recognise that individuals have value regardless of the size of their income.
Having banished his sacrilegious haircut and dumped Jesus' great great great granddaughter, Tom Hanks returns to our screens as academic turned action figure Robert Langdon. Dan Brown wrote "The Da Vinci Code" after he had already scored a hit with "Angels and Demons", but Sony and director Ron Howard presumably thought that the latter story would make the more popular film. Having established The Da Vinci Code as a hit movie, Howard and co. have taken note of the audience for Brown's religious thrillers and moved swiftly onto Angels and Demons.
This week the Arch Bishop of Canterbury visited a Cardiff Pub - not unusual perhaps, after all why shouldn't the head of the Church of England enjoy a pint like the rest of us - but, he wasn't there just for the beer, he had been asked by the pub church Solace at Edwards on St Mary Street, Cardiff to answer the question: “Can God mend broken Britain?”
Today they pretty much crucified Christianity. Buried it. In the place where its founder is supposed to have been crucified, and buried, his followers conspired to betray him all over again. With a Glaswegian Kiss. At the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Jerusalem, a mass brawl broke out between Greek Orthodox and Armenian monks, who traded kicks and punches at the shrine, until the Israeli Police started making arrests.
