Light a lightDescriptions of Jesus, particularly from the Gospel of John, refer to him as light.
For example…
The idea that Jesus can be a light in the darkness has a number of implications…
When you are in the dark, Jesus can help you know where to go.
When you are scared of the dark, Jesus can bring comfort.
When situations in the world are at their darkest, we can pray that Jesus will bring his light there.
For a week or so, light a candle every night after it has become dark. Spend some time asking Jesus to light a situation for you or a situation in the world. Try using one of these prayers:
Dear God, give me light.
Give me light so I can see you.
Give me light so I can follow Jesus, your son.
Give me light so I can bring light to others.
Dear God, give me your light.Dear God, give me light.
Give me light so I can make good decisions.
Give me light so I can chase away my fears.
Give me light so I can bring light to others.
Dear God, give me your light.
Lighten our darkness,
Lord, we pray,
and in your great mercy
defend us from all perils and dangers of this night,
for the love of your only Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jesus was someone who stretched the faith of people around him. He constantly dared people to see things differently, to act differently and to take steps of faith towards God.
