Perfect moment

This song is an idea of what might have been behind Judas’ thinking when he betrayed Jesus. Judas was one of the twelve disciples and in the last days of Jesus’ life he played a critical role in leading the authorities, who were intent on killing Jesus, to where he was.

Jesus was still speaking, when Judas the betrayer came up. He was one of the twelve disciples, and a large mob armed with swords and clubs was with him. They had been sent by the chief priests and the nation’s leaders. Judas had told them ahead of time, “Arrest the man I greet with a kiss.” Judas walked right up to Jesus and said, “Hello, teacher.” Then Judas kissed him.

White light unknown

During the three years the Gospels focus on, the years when Jesus is journeying around the holy land with his disciples, there are some truly extroardinary events. One such event reveals something of the hidden side of Jesus – his full supernatural presence. It is sometimes called the transfiguration. Jesus takes with him three of his closest followers and on top of a hill, away from the others, amazing things happen.

There in front of the disciples, Jesus was completely changed. His face was shining like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

All at once Moses and Elijah were there talking with Jesus. So Peter said to him, “Lord, it is good for us to be here! Let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While Peter was still speaking, the shadow of a bright cloud passed over them. From the cloud a voice said, “This is my own dear Son, and I am pleased with him. Listen to what he says!”

Why did Jesus ask the witnesses of his miracles to keep it hushed up so often? Why the attempt at anonymity? A related thought could be – could Jesus be doing good or healing people without them even knowing about it? Using the story of the healing of a little girl know as Jairus’ daughter, this song explores these themes.

While Jesus was speaking, someone came from Jairus’ home and said, “Your daughter has died! Why bother the teacher anymore?”

When Jesus heard this, he told Jairus, “Don’t worry! Have faith, and your daughter will get well.”

Jesus went into the house, but he did not let anyone else go with him, except Peter, John, James, and the girl’s father and mother. Everyone was crying and weeping for the girl. But Jesus said, “The child isn’t dead. She is just asleep.” The people laughed at him because they knew she was dead.

Jesus took hold of the girl’s hand and said, “Child, get up!” She came back to life and got right up. Jesus told them to give her something to eat.

The story in context can be found at the end of this passage.
