  About this section

1. How can I use smilies?

Smilies are keyboard characters used to convey an emotion, such as a smile :) or a frown :(. This message board automatically converts certain smilies into a colourful button. When you post a new thread or reply to someone else's message, you can use our instant smilies buttons. Top

2. Can I add HTML to my messages?

Sorry, but no. HTML code will not work in messages on these boards. This helps the pages to load more speedily. You can, however, use UBB code in your messages – see the next section for details. Top

3. What is UBB code?

UBB Code is similar to HTML, but offers just a few basic functions, such as hyperlinking, image display, and text formatting in bold and italic. For complete details on UBB Code, click this link. Top

4. Can I edit my own posts?

Sorry, but no. Messages are hardly ever edited on these boards, but in extreme cases (e.g. offensive messages) they can be edited or deleted by the board moderators or the administrators. When a post is edited, a footnote is added to it, giving the date and name of the editor. In this way, everyone knows that the message has been edited. Top

5. Can I attach files?

For security reasons, you may not attach files to any posts. You may cut and paste text into your post, however, or use UBB code to provide hyperlinks to outside documents. Top

6. Can I search these boards?

You may search for specific posts based on a word or words found in the posts, by a particular registered member, by date, and/or by forum. Just click on the "search" link at the top of most pages. Top

7. Can I add a standard signature to my posts?

You can use a signature (commonly used in email messages) on your posts. You set your signature in your member profile. Once you have a signature stored, you can choose to include it with any post you make by checking the "include signature" box when you create your post. This message board's administrator may elect to turn the signature feature off at any time, however. If that is the case, the "include signature" option will not appear when you post a note, even if you have stored a signature. You may change your signature at any time by changing your profile, unless a message board administrator locks your profile. Note: You cannot use HTML in your signature file, but you can use UBB Code. Top

8. Are there any censor features?

The message board administrators have the power to censor certain words that may be posted. This censoring is not an exact science, however, so certain words may be censored out of context. Please realize that the censoring, if any censoring is being performed, is being done by a computer based on the words that are being screened. Words that are censored are replaced with asterisks. Top

9. Can I be notified by email if someone responds to my topic?

If you create a new topic, you have the option of receiving an email notification every time someone posts a reply to your topic. Just check the email notification box when creating a new topic, if you want to use this feature. Top

10. What are Today's Active Threads?

When you visit this message board, you will see a link at the top of the list of forums called "Today's active threads". Clicking on this link will provide you with a list of topics in all open, public forums that have been posted to during the current day. Top

11. What are posting icons?

You can associate an icon with each post that you make. There are currently 14 icons, each expressing a different emotion or identification. These icons appear next to each topic in a forum listing and on each post. Top

12. What is the Recent Visitors feature?

Recent Visitors is a display of users browsing the forums and topics on this board in the past 30 minutes. Top

13. How do I take my name off the list of recent visitors?

You can make yourself invisible to the Recent Visitors list by entering your my profile page, selecting the Update profile link, and changing your Hide from Recent Visitors feature? preference. Top
