The second coming of rejesus

27/11/08 | Posted by Bruce

Rejesus went live in 2002 and we've been fortunate that the first design has lasted so long. The Guardian described it as cool and the NGFL said it was the best website they had seen. But with Web3.0 just around the corner we thought we would kill two birds with one stone: redesign the site at the same time as brining it from static pages in good old HTML to dynamic pages using ExpressionEngine as our content management system.

 New homepage

Here is the new design. The screen is wider with three columns. The first, reading right to left is your main content. The second, next to it is related information to the main content and the third column, far right, is site-wide information. There are new ways to navigate including categories and tags and the main module sections have been renamed.

Looks very very nice. Reminds me of Veerle’s blog (colours and some design). He uses expression engine also so I’m wondering if that is who inspired you for the design.

Thank you for the complement - being likened to Veerle’s work is a complement but I don’t think she or I would quite agree with you.

The colours are from the existing rejesus identity - see the old site, designed in 2002 for comparison.

I prefer the old site style. The new one is not that logical, and some features are missing (like banners to link to your website). More importantly, a sight impaired friend just can’t navigate it anymore. Put the old site back!! Web design rules are there for a reason, and unfortunately an ever increasing number of sites become a designer’s ego trip.
