Byzantine fresco“It was almost daybreak on Sunday when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. Suddenly a strong earthquake struck, and the Lord’s angel came down from heaven, He rolled away the stone and sat on it.”
Matthew 28:1-2
I have been to church this morning. I have taken part in the annual Easter Egg hunt and now I am waiting for my roast dinner to cook. As yet I have not managed to eat any chocolate! Today is the best day of the year for me. Jesus is alive. I am set free and I have hope. Because Jesus broke that chain of death by rising from the dead that first Easter Sunday I don’t have to be afraid of death. Death has lost its sting.
There is a great Easter Sunday meditation available on the re:jesus site that reflects on the spiritual content of the Byzantine fresco above and the hope of Easter Sunday.
I pray that you will have a peaceful Easter Sunday and that the hope of the resurrection of Jesus will inspire new life in your heart.
Alleluia. Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia.
