Ealiest Known Picture of Jesus Goes on Display

23/09/11 | Posted by MattPage | Permalink | (0) Comments

What does Jesus look like when you close your eyes and picture him? Long hair and a beard? Blue eyes even? The oldest images of Jesus ever found go on display today in New York University's Institute for the Study of the Ancient World and there's something distinctly strange about them. The pictures painted closest to the time when Jesus was alive show him with short hair, brown eyes, and, most surprising of all, beardless. More ...

Controversial Jesus Photograph Slashed in Gallery

21/04/11 | Posted by MattPage | Permalink | (1) Comments

One of the most controversial art works about Jesus has been vandalised by Christian protesters whilst on display in a gallery in France. The attack took place the day after a protest march by hundreds of French Catholic fundamentalists complaining about the work's inclusion at the Musée d'art Contemporain in Avignon. There has been tension in the city ever since the "I Believe in Miracles" exhibition began, with online petitions, criticisms of the piece by the Archbishop of Vaucluse and tens of thousands of emails objecting to the exhibition. Film Review: The Chronicles of Narnia - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

10/12/10 | Posted by MattPage | Permalink | (2) Comments

With a change of director and a change of studio, the latest instalment in the Chronicles of Narnia series has finally arrived in cinemas after a break of two and a half years. As with the book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader follows the adventures of the younger two Pevensie children, Lucy and Edmund, and their brattish cousin Eustace, as they arrive back in Narnia via a painting of a Narnian ship. There they rejoin King Caspian and the valiant talking mouse Reepicheep who are on a quest to find seven lost Narnian Lords. More ...

Giant Jesus Raised in Poland

11/11/10 | Posted by MattPage | Permalink | (2) Comments

The town of Swiebodzin in Poland is a fairly unremarkable place. With just 22,000 inhabitants it’s only claim to fame, at least until last weekend, was being a crossroads between two of Poland’s major motorways, better known for people passing through than for anything in the town itself.

But as of Sunday the town has an unusual claim to fame. It now hosts the world’s largest statue of Jesus. More ...

Alternative Parables: #2 - Livid

Even as the news was still sinking in he could feel his anger fizzing its way up through his body. This was typical of his sister. Say one thing, do another. Don’t bother to think about anyone else. If something’s hard, just quit it, preferably as soon as possible. More ...

His legs were gone, his lungs burned, but Bernbaum somehow summoned the energy to reached out for the top of the chain link fence. But it was too late. He felt his pursuer grab him by his leg and yank him down onto the floor. More ...

Film Review: Inception

17/07/10 | Posted by MattPage | Permalink | (0) Comments

British director Christopher Nolan seems to have combined the best of his talents for making big blockbusters (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and quirky, thought provoking films (Memento) in making his latest film Inception. It’s the cleverest summer movie for quite some time: a fast paced thriller that leaves its audience trying to work everything out long after the credits have rolled. More ...

Film Review: Shrek Forever After

30/06/10 | Posted by MattPage | Permalink | (0) Comments

Putting Shrek and Jesus in the same article gets some people nervous. After all, Jesus' story is hardly fairy tale and he certainly wasn't an ogre. But there are one or two moments in this latest instalment of the Shrek series that reminded me of the life of Jesus. The latest film actually starts somewhere in the middle of the original film and in many ways Shrek Forever After is an attempt to put aside two forgettable sequels and get back to the heart of what made the first film work so well.
